2015 Honda Pilot Compared to the New 2016 Honda Pilot

The brand new and completely redesigned 2016 Honda Pilot has just arrived at Fisher Honda in Boulder. The new Pilot features a much sleeker exterior design that is in line with the new HR-V and current CR-V as compared wit the former generation’s blocky and heavily angled design. The design hinges on the popularity of the Honda CR-V, especially given its efficient AWD system, in the Colorado market and gives car shoppers who are looking with something that offers a third row and more cargo capacity an appealing option along the same lines. Not to say the 2nd generation Pilot didn’t have its fair share of fans, but despite the styling departure, 2nd gen Pilot fans love all of the innovations that have been incorporated into the new model and are coming around quickly on the styling.  Apart from the obviously difference of the exterior style, lets see what other differences and innovations Honda has included in the brand new Honda Pilot.

Improved Interior Space and Cargo Capacity

Honda has focused on everything that Pilot customers loved about the second generation and have refined and enhanced all of those crucial features. Obviously, the new 2016 Pilot still seats 8 people comfortably and has stowing seats just like the previous model. Where the two models differ is in the capacity of the cabin. The overall interior space is comparable in both models at just over 170 cubic inches, but when you fold the seats down the 2015 model only offers 87 cu. Inches and the 2016 model offers significantly more at 109 cu. inches. That’s the ton for all of the innovation in the 2016 Honda Pilot, there’s nothing too crazy going on, but everything you liked about it is now better.

A More Efficient and Powerful Drivetrain

For the powertrain in the 2016 Pilot the itineration continues. The 2015 Pilot offered respectable fuel economy while producing enough power to provide a great driving experience and have a substantial towing capacity. The 2nd generation Pilot achieved 17mpg city and 24mpg highway with a 3.5L V6 that produced 250 horsepower and 253 ft-lbs of torque and is pair with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The new 2016 Pilot has a similar 3.5L V6 but produces 280 horsepower, 262 ft-lbs of torque and gets better fuel economy at  18mpg in the city and 26mpg on the highway. The new Pilot has a 6-speed automatic transmission which helps it achieve the increased fuel economy, higher trim levels feature a 9-speed gearbox that provide 20mpg city and 27mpg on the highway.2016 Honda Pilot Inventory button

Better Driving Dynamics

Honda has streamlined the design of the 2016 Pilot by enhancing a laundry list of features while successfully lowering the weight of the SUV by over 400lbs. This help with the fuel economy as well as performance and handling, making the overall driving experience superior to the previous generation.
