How Do You Check Your Transmission Fluid Level?

Check your transmission fluid on a regular basis to help prevent maintenance issues before they become serious. Here’s how:

  1. Turn the car on. The engine should be warmed up before you check the transmission level.
  2. Find the transmission fluid dipstick. It’s usually located to the right of the oil dipstick, but check your owner’s manual if you’re having trouble finding it.
  3. Remove the dipstick and touch the fluid, moving it around between your thumb and forefinger. The fluid should be nearly clear, with a pink hue. If it looks dirty or gives off a burnt smell, you’ll need a replacement at a Boulder area service center.
  4. Use a rag to wipe off the dipstick, and then insert it back into the vehicle.
  5. Pull out the dipstick again and check the level. If the fluid is under the “Full” marking, you’ll need to add more to your vehicle.
  6. Pour the fluid in a funnel to to bring it up to full. Be careful not to overfill it!

What is the Honda Maintenance Minder System?

The Maintenance Minder System uses the on-board computer to continuously monitor engine operating conditions such as speed, engine temperature, ambient temperature, time, and vehicle use to determine when an oil change and regular maintenance is necessary. This is a more accurate and efficient way of letting you know when maintenance is needed, making sure that your vehicle is cared for and on the road for as long as possible.

How does the Honda Maintenance Minder System work?

There is no longer a maintenance schedule in the owner’s manual of your Honda vehicle. The system shows engine oil life as a percentage, which drops over time as the vehicle racks up miles. It starts out at 100% with fresh engine oil, and will decrease as you drive your vehicle down to 0%, letting you know that the oil life is over. Your Honda will alert you with a visual warning light to indicate not only when the next service is due, but also what type of service is needed by a series of codes.

Honda Maintenance Minder Codes and Sub-Codes

The Maintenance Minder codes and sub-codes aren’t quite as straight-forward as the oil life indicator. So what do the different Honda Maintenance Minder codes mean? The Maintenance Main Items Symbols and Maintenance Sub Items numbers are below! Also, you can find the codes in your owner’s manual. Keep in mind, the Maintenance Main Items indicate an action that needs to be taken, while the Maintenance Sub Items include additional components that should be checked or serviced regularly. These codes ensure that your car is efficient, and also that the certified techs have all the information they need. The Honda Maintenance Minder system is here to make sure that your car is well taken care of!
