The 2015 Honda Civic Type-R European Model

Honda has official brought a production model of the Civic Type-R to the Geneva Auto Show, Honda hasn’t kept it a secret though, you can find a ton of information about the Type-R if you look around the web. Most of what you’ll find is information about the 5 door hatchback version of the Type-R that is destined for Europe and Asia, and how amazing it is. But, if you really look around, you can find plenty of rumors that say that an American version is in the works!

As you can see from the pictures, the Type-R that’s been on display is a hatchback that looks pretty unique and appealing from the American perspective. Unfortunately for us, the great looking Civic hatchback on display is the typical Civic in Europe, which hinders it from coming to America. A Spanish site called Moto Y has said that a source very close to Honda stated that an American version in the works, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet. Until we do hear that the Civic Type-R is definitely headed to America, let’s take a look at what we know about the Euro release which should be very similar to any American release.

First, Honda just released that they took the Civic Type-R to the Nurburgring and it finished with a time of 7:50, which crushed the previous front wheel drive world record and put it on the finisher list in a position surrounded by BMW M3’s and Porsches. Pretty impressive for a Honda Civic!

Performance Features on the Honda Civic Type-R

Honda claims that the new Civic Type-R is the most powerful front wheel hatchback of all time. It’s powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four cylinder engine with VTEC that produces 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Regardless of if this is the highest horsepower, fwd, hatchback ever offered, this engine is definitely the most powerful production engine that Honda has ever offered.

Every other component of this vehicle is just as advanced though. In order to manage the huge amount of power being driven through the front wheels, Honda has developed a n advanced suspension and damper system to limit torque steer as much as possible while optimizing handling and performance. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission for a classic feel. Additional upgrades include brakes, 19″ rims, and more.

Features of the Civic Type-R

The interior of the Civic Type-R has been tuned as well to enhance the experience of driving the car. Deep buckets seats lined with synthetic suede keep you in place around a corner and an aluminum gear knob feels great when shifting.

Look forward to more news about the brand new Honda Civic Type-R and a hopeful announcement about a North American release.
