Honda has always been able to give drivers a little something extra on the Accord, equipping their mid-size car with engines and transmissions that make them more fun to drive than the competition, and the 2015 Accord continues that trend. The Accord Coupe handles as smoothly and corners as sharply as you would expect from its sleek build, and while the Sedan is a bit larger, it is no less enjoyable behind the wheel.
The MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension help give the Accord a confident ride regardless of the powertrain under the hood. But if you’re the kind of driver who prefers a high-power sedan, you can get it. Honda has two different powertrains available:
The standard 2.4L four-cylinder engine is rated at 185 hp at 6400 RPM and 181 lb-ft of torque at 3900 RPM and can be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
The available 3.5L V6 can be found on EX-L V6 and Touring trims, offers 278 hp at 6200 RPM and 252 lb-ft of torque at 4900 RPM, and is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission (with a six-speed manual available on the Accord Coupe)
Choosing the right transmission for your needs may not be easy, but Honda has done well to ensure that there’s not a bad choice in the bunch.
For drivers who prefer the old-school control of a manual transmission, you can find the five-speed manual paired to the Accord’s four-cylinder engine on LX, Sport, and EX trim levels.
The continuously variable transmission (CVT) is available for upgrade on LX, Sport, and EX trims and comes standard on the Accord EX-L. Paddle shifters are available on the Sport trim. Honda’s CVT has been praised for working well with the four-cylinder’s mid-rev torque unlike many competing CVTs.
The Accord’s V6 engines come mated to Honda’s new six-speed automatic transmission to take advantage of the broad torque curve and optimize fuel efficiency, though a six-speed manual transmission is an option on the Accord EX-L V6 Coupe).
