Odyssey Awarded “Good” Rating in Overlap Frontal Crash Test

The 2015 Honda Odyssey was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick, and is one of only two minivans to receive a “good” rating in the small overlap frontal crash test. The Odyssey also received a “good” rating across the board. According to 7News Denver, the Odyssey outperformed the likes of the Toyota Sienna, Nissan Quest, Chrysler Town and County, and the Dodge Caravan in the small overlap frontal crash test. The 2015 Kia Sedona also received a “good” rating in the small overlap frontal crash test. The Sienna got the third-highest rating of “acceptable,” while the other three were rated as “poor.”

The NHTSA gave the 2015 Honda Odyssey 5 stars overall. The minivan comes with a rearview camera, electronic stability control (ESC), forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. These systems are all on top of the Odyssey’s comprehensive airbag system.

Honda Odyssey Safety Features

The 2015 Honda Odyssey is loaded with safety features. Standard Honda Odyssey safety features on all models are:

  • Vehicle Stability Assist with Traction Control
  • Anti-Lock Braking System
  • Electronic Brake Distribution
  • Brake Assist
  • Rearview Camera with Guidelines
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Daytime Running Lights

The EX-L and Touring models come standard with a forward collision warning and lane departure warning. The rearview camera on these models offers multiple angles. The lane departure warning provides the driver with a visual and auditory warning when their vehicle makes an un-indicated lane departure. The forward collision warning detects when an object is in the front of your vehicle and if there is a risk for collision, audible and visual alerts will warn you. The system is not part of a braking system, so it is still up to the driver to stop.

Another great Honda Odyssey safety feature is the driver’s and front passenger’s active head restraints. In the case of a rear impact, the head restraints will move forward and up. This helps reduce the chance of a neck injury. The Odyssey is also equipped with dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags. These airbags deploy only in a significant front crash, and will deploy at a rate that is determined by the severity of the impact. Other passive Honda Odyssey safety features include:

  • Advanced Compatibility Engineering Body Structure
  • SmartVent Front Side Airbags
  • Three-Row Side Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor
  • 3-Point Seating Belts at all Seating Positions
  • Front 3-Point Seat Belts with Automatic Tensioning System
  • Lower Anchors and Tethers for Car Seats
  • Seat Belt Reminder for Front Passengers
  • Child-Proof Rear Door Locks
