2016 Honda HR-V Cargo Comparison with other Subcompact Crossovers

Honda has chosen a great time to enter the subcompact crossover segment with April 2015 seeing a rise of 22 percent in crossover sales, according to AutoGuide. Take a look at how the HR-V competes with the competition in the 2016 Honda HR-V cargo comparison.

HR-V has most cargo space with rear seats up or down

The HR-V has three cargo configurations. Tall mode gives you about 4 feet of vertical space in the second row for cargo. Long mode fits cargo up to 8 feet long by folding down the passenger-side front and rear seats. Utility mode utilizes all of the cargo space that is available with the rear seats folded down. The other crossovers on the market offer similar features, but the HR-V has the greatest amount of cargo space, while the Fiat 500X has the greatest amount of passenger volume. 2015 Subaru Crosstrek

The Crosstrek and HR-V have cargo area tie-down anchors, a cargo area light, and 60/40-split second-row seats. The Crosstrek has about a cubic foot more passenger space, while the HR-V has about 5 cubic feet more total cargo space. Both crossovers seat five. The Crosstrek also has a cargo area cover that is standard on the Limited model. It is not listed if the HR-V will include a cargo area cover, however a retractable cover is standard on some CR-V models. The cargo cover is an accessory on the Fit.

With the HR-V’s tall mode, cargo can be placed on the second-row floor.

2015 Chevrolet Trax

The HR-V has about 9 more cubic feet of cargo space than the Trax with the rear seats down and 4 more cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up. The HR-V also has more passenger volume. The Trax and HR-V have cargo area tie-down anchors, a cargo area light, and 60/40-split second-row seats. A cargo area cover is standard on all Trax models.

2015 Mini Countryman

The HR-V has more cargo space than the Mini Countryman, however the Countryman has more passenger volume. The HR-V has 15 more cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats down and 6 more cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up. The Countryman and HR-V have cargo area lights, tie-down anchors, and split-folding rear seats. The HR-V has 60/40 split seats, while the Countryman has 40/20/40 split-folding seats. This means the middle seat can be put down and two people can still sit in the rear seats in the Countryman.

2016 Fiat 500X

The HR-V has more cargo space than the Fiat 500X. With the rear seats up, the HR-V has 4 more cubic feet of cargo space and with the rear seats down the HR-V has 6.8 more cubic feet of cargo space. The Fiat 500X is not yet available and it is unclear if cargo area tie-down anchors and a cargo area light are in the 500X. These features are present in the HR-V. A cargo compartment cover is available on the 500X’s highest trim level.

2015 Nissan Juke

The Nissan Juke has the least amount of cargo space of all of the crossovers on this list. With the rear seats up the Juke has 10.5 cubic feet of space and 35.9 cubic feet with the rear seats down. The HR-V has 12.7 more cubic feet of space with the rear seats up and 21.7 more cubic feet of space with the rear seats down. The Juke also has the least amount of passenger volume of all of the crossovers in the comparison. The HR-V has about 9 more cubic feet of space.

2015 Jeep Renegade

The Jeep Renegade has less cargo space than the HR-V. The HR-V has 4 more cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats and about 6 more cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats down. The Renegade and HR-V have 60/40-split folding second-row seats, tie-down anchors, and cargo area lights.
