June 16th, 2015 by

The 2015 Honda Fit, Accord, and CR-V were named “Best Family Cars for 2015” by Parents Magazine and Edmunds. The Fit was named in the budget category, the Accord in the sedans group, and the CR-V made the crossovers list.

“The car is an extension of home for a family—the place where days are rehashed, on-the-go meals are eaten, and quality time is shared,” Parents editor-in-chief, Dana Points, said. “It’s important that parents feel comforted by their car’s safety features and performance and are confident on the road. This year’s list features a few trusted favorites and first-timers perfect for families looking to get the most out of their car.”

Family-Friendly Vehicles with a Rearview Camera and Honda LaneWatch

Every Honda comes equipped with a rearview camera. Honda LaneWatch is standard on EX and above trim levels. With Honda LaneWatch a view of your passenger-side blind spot displays on the touchscreen thanks to a small camera mounted on the passenger-side mirror.

Here’s a look at these family-friendly vehicles and their features.

2015 Honda Fit

Although the Honda Fit is a compact crossover, it makes the most of its interior space in the budget category for family-friendly vehicles. With the rear seats down there is 52.7 cubic feet of space. The rear seats are magic seats; just lift the seat bottom up and secure. This allows you to transport cargo up to 4 feet in height. If you’re using the rear seats for child seats there are lower anchors and tethers to secure the seats. The EX and EX-L models come with a push-button start and smart entry. With smart entry you can leave your keys in your purse or pocket while still being able to lock and unlock the Fit.

Not only does the Fit have plenty of convenience features, but it is also an IIHS Top Safety Pick and 5-star rated overall by the NHTSA. The Fit has vehicle stability assist with traction control, brake assist, and daytime running lights. Child-proof rear door locks and advanced airbags are also standard.

2015 Honda Accord

Like the Fit, the Accord seats five and has child-proof rear door locks. Lower anchors and tethers for child seats help secure the seats, which is a great family-friendly vehicles feature. The EX and above models also come with push-button start and smart entry. There is also plenty of cargo space in the trunk with 15.5 cubic feet of space. Dual-zone automatic climate control system and a rear-seat armrest are also standard.

The 2015 Honda Accord is an IIHS Top Safety Pick having received a “good” rating in all five crash tests. The Accord is also 5-star rated overall in NHTSA crash tests. The Accord also has dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags, SmartVent front side airbags, and vehicle stability assist with traction control.

2015 Honda CR-V

Family-Friendly Vehicles

The collision mitigation braking system detects an impending frontal collision and an alert will sound. Pressure will be applied to the brakes if necessary.

The CR-V is a great family-friendly vehicle. On top of lower anchors and tethers for child seats, the CR-V has easy, fold-down, 60/40-split rear seats. Just pull on a lever in the cargo area and the rear seats fold down automatically making loading the cargo area a breeze. With the seats up there is 35.2 cubic feet of space. With the rear seats folded down there is 70.9 cubic feet of cargo space.

The 2015 Honda CR-V Touring model comes with a suite of driver-assisted technology called Honda Sensing. It is thanks to this system that the CR-V earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. This suite includes a collision mitigation braking system. With this system if an impending frontal collision is detected a warning will sound and brake pressure will automatically be applied. Adaptive cruise control adjusts your speed so you do not have to do so manually. The lane keeping assist system adjusts the steering wheel to correct an unindicated lane departure. The lane departure warning notifies you when you begin to drift out of your lane without your signal on. Honda LaneWatch is also included in this suite. The CR-V is 4-star rated overall by the NHTSA.
