We specialize in a variety of vehicle detailing services, including dent and scratch repair, window tinting, clear bra installation, interior and exterior cleaning, and more. But before you schedule your appointment, there are several detailing treatments that you can do on your own to keep your vehicle looking great and you save a few bucks at the same time.

Do-It-Yourself Detailing

Check out some of Fisher Honda’s tips on do-it-yourself auto detailing:

  • Repairing chipped paint. Paint chip repair kits are pretty inexpensive, and you can easily find the right color to match your vehicle. Just wash your vehicle, sand down the chipped area, polish and prime the area, apply the paint, and then apply a clear coat to seal it in.
  • Removing sticky substances. Trying to remove tree sap or tar can be difficult to do by simply trying to wash it off. Plus, it can ruin your paint, especially if you try to scrub it, so it’s important to remove it with a spot-care kit or denatured alcohol. Make sure to take care of it as soon as possible since it can be harder to remove and more damaging to your paint the longer you wait.  Clean the affected area with the solvent or alcohol, then with a window cleaner to dissolve the material. Apply wax to the affect spot afterward because the solvent will have stripped away the wax.
  • Wheel cleaning. As any Boulder area Honda dealer can tell you, everyday use of your vehicle’s brakes causes dust to build up in your rims, making them look dark and dull. If you wait too long to clean them, the dust can get baked on, making it more difficult to remove.  Keep your wheels looking shiny by treating them with a specialty cleaning product and a soft bristle brush or microfiber cloth. You can even get specialty brushes that are designed to get in between the small spokes and awkward angles of your wheels. Find non-silicone treatments, as they are less likely to attract dirt and debris.
  • Claying. Claying kits are available to remove surface contaminants and residue left behind after normal washing, leaving a shiny appearance. It gives the same effect as polishing, but is less abrasive and safer for the finish.
