Previewing the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid

Joining the Accord Hybrid and Insight as the third electrified Honda manufactured in the U.S., the 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid promises gains in fuel efficiency and reductions in harmful CO2 emissions that contribute to global climate change. Equipped with the same two-motor hybrid powertrain featured in the current Accord Hybrid, the 2020 CR-V Hybrid will be powered by two electric motors paired with a 2.0-liter, 16-valve DOHC Atkinson cycle engine that delivers a thermal efficiency greater than 40 percent, the highest of any mass-produced Honda engine. Here are some important facts about this advanced hybrid powertrain:

• Capable of generating 212 hp, up from the 190 hp of the gas-powered CR-V.
• Anticipated 50 percent in EPA-estimated fuel economy. Exact EPA estimates will be available closer to the CR-V Hybrid release.
• The compact intelligent power unit (IPU) contains the hybrid battery pack and its control systems, and is mounted under the cargo floor, so Broomfield-area drivers can still enjoy the versatile cargo capabilities that the CR-V is known for.
• Available AWD will make the 2020 CR-V Hybrid the first Honda two-motor hybrid model to feature all-wheel drive in the U.S.

The exterior styling of the 2020 CR-V Hybrid creates a profile that is both refined and rugged. The bold front chrome grille will carry a blue Honda logo, and wide fog lights integrated into the bumper add to a more aggressive look. The CR-V Hybrid EX, EX-L, and Touring trims will feature an eye-catching bar with five LED fog lights up front.

In back, you’ll get dark-tinted taillights, dark chrome treatment beneath the rear glass, dark-tinted rear window, hybrid badging on the hatch, and a unique rear bumper. The CR-V Hybrid also features a hidden tailpipe. 

The Ex and EX-L trims come with 18-inch wheels with a dark gray machined finish, while the Touring trim gets 19-inch wheels.
