In a recent Motor Trend list of 15 cars with the most North American made parts, the Honda Accord placed sixth on the list and the Honda Civic placed 15th.

According to Honda, “94 percent of Honda and Acura vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2013 were manufactured in North America, the highest percentage of any international automaker.” On top of that, 70 percent of the Honda Accord’s content is sourced from the U.S. and Canada. Fifteen percent is sourced from Japan. It is not stated where the other 15 percent of content is from. The Civic is comprised of 65 percent of content that is from the U.S. and Canada. Between 15 and 20 percent is also sourced from Japan. The additional origin of the remaining 15 to 20 percent wasn’t reported. Here’s a look at the Accord, Civic, and Honda’s assembly plants.

The Accord’s motor and transmission are sourced from the U.S. and Japan. Final assembly takes place in Marysville, Ohio, where the Accord has been assembled since November 1982, according to Honda. The Accord sedan, coupe, and hybrid are assembled here. The plant sources parts from 652 suppliers in North America, 533 of those suppliers are in the U.S., and 158 of those suppliers are in Ohio. There are 680,000 vehicles a year manufactured at the Marysville Auto Plant. The plant also manufactures the Honda CR-V, Honda Crosstour, and a few Acura models. Honda’s Anna Engine Plant, which is also in Ohio, manufactures 4-cylinder engines as well as V-6 Earth Dreams Technology engines. The engines on the sedan and coupe are sourced in the U.S. The transmission on the coupe is sourced in Japan and the transmission in the sedan is sourced in the U.S. Both vehicles are assembled in Ohio.

Honda Civic

The Civic’s engine has parts that are sourced in the U.S. and Japan. The transmissions are made with parts from Japan. Final assembly takes place in the U.S. and Canada. The Civic sedan and coupe’s engines are manufactured in Canada at the Alliston, Ontario plant. The Civic sedan, natural gas, and hybrid are assembled in Greensburg, Ind., while the Civic coupe is assembled in Alliston, Ontario, Canada. Here’s a look at Civics on the Fisher Honda lot:

  • 2014 Honda Civic Coupe LX U.S. and Canadian parts make up 65 percent of this vehicle, while 20 percent is sourced from Japan. The engine originated in the U.S. and the transmission in Japan. The final assembly point was Alliston, Ontario, Canada.
  • 2015 Honda Civic Sedan EX-L U.S. and Canadian parts make up 65 percent of this vehicle, while 15 percent is sourced from Japan. The engine originated in the U.S. and the transmission in Japan. The final assembly point was Greensburg, Ind.
  • 2014 Honda Civic Sedan Hybrid U.S. and Canadian parts make up 65 percent of this vehicle, while 20 percent is sourced from Japan. The engine and transmission originated in Japan. The final assembly point was Greensburg, Ind.

Overall, the transmissions are sourced in Japan and the final assembly points are in North America. The non-hybrid Civics have engines that are sourced in the U.S. The Civics that are built at the Indiana plant are assembled with about 900 parts from hundreds of suppliers. Many of these suppliers are in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan.

Cars with the Most North American Made Parts

Three cars on Motor Trend’s list of cars with the most North American made parts had 75 percent of their parts sourced from the U.S. and Canada. These cars are the Cadillac CTS coupe, Chevrolet Corvette, and Toyota Camry. The Cadillac CTS coupe and Chevrolet Corvette are assembled in the U.S. Their engine is sourced from the U.S. and their transmissions from the U.S. and Mexico. The Toyota Camry contains 15 percent content from Japan and its final assembly is in the U.S. The engine and transmission are sourced from the U.S. and Japan.
