2014 Honda Fit
132 / 105miles per gallon (city/highway)
123horsepower, Electric

The 2013 Fit is already a great subcompact because of its flexible interior versatility and efficient design. The fully electric version looks very similar to the gas-powered version, but under the hood, they are two different animals. The electric motor and lithium-ion battery pack of the EV set it apart as the symbol of modern technology.

The Electric Motor and Powertrain

The Fit EV’s motor, which is rated at 123 hp, was inspired by the FCX Clarity fuel cell model. Its 8.5 second 0-60 mph acceleration time is faster than many of the subcompacts currently on the market, displaying how far this technology has come.

Furthering this point, the gas version of the Fit produces 106 lb-ft of torque, while the 92kW coaxial electric motor, which is the same high-density motor as the bigger FCX Clarity, allows the EV version to make an impressive 189 lb-ft of torque.

Honda’s electric subcompact features a 3-mode drive system, letting you individualize the driving experience to suit your needs and preferences. If you want to stretch the mileage between battery charges, set the mode to Econ. If you need some power to make a quick pass, then set it to Sport Mode. Or, keep it in Normal mode for regular everyday driving needs.

Why Drive Electric?

Why do some drivers prefer electric vehicles? For starters, they never have to buy gas. Ever. The cost per mile is much lower than gas-powered vehicles, especially if you charge up during off-peak times. Many companies even offer benefits to EV drivers, such as free charging and free parking. Some states even let EV drivers use the carpool lane when they are driving solo.

Drivers of electric vehicles feel good knowing they are not making carbon dioxide emissions while driving. They also like being with the future wave of technology, and contributing to new advancements. The car of the future is finally here—do you want to be one of its drivers?
