HondaLink Connectivity and Media

Earlier this week Honda uploaded a video to their YouTube channel (see below) outlining a new “Infotainment” system called HondaLink. The system centers around a key partnership with Harman to include the Aha Radio system in select 2013 Honda models. HondaLink is designed so that drivers can keep their smartphones out of sight while maintaining convenient access to the media and connectivity that modern mobile devices offer.

Aha Radio delivers the media that you would normally access on your smartphone to the in dash display and sound system inside your vehicle. This includes everything from traffic and weather reports, to your favorite MP3’s, to the most recent social media updates by your closest friends.

Podcasts
Aha Radio gives you access to news broadcasts in the form of podcasts from some of the leading news organizations such as NPR, Fox News, This Week in Tech and more.

Music
On Demand radio stations from across the country, Slacker Radio, Pandora and MP3s stored on your device give freedom to listen to whatever suits your mood.

Social Networking and SMS
HondaLink introduces a new system that audibly reads Facebook and Twitter updates from your closest friends while you are on the road. The voice-to-text SMS feature that Honda introduced on the most recent CRV will also be bundled into the new system for safe communication while driving.

Controlling HondaLink

Although the content is pulled from the internet via your cellular data connection, HondaLink with Aha Radio has been designed so that you never have to handle your smartphone while in your vehicle again. The media can be preselected before your trip through an app installed on your mobile device. iPhones will connect to the system through a USB port and Androids will use Bluetooth wireless technology. Once inside the vehicle all commands will be delivered through controls on the steering wheel, buttons on the dash board and with voice recognition.

HondaLink is set to debut with the 2013 Accord and is rumored to follow shortly after in the 2013 Crosstour. Keep your browser tuned to the Fisher Honda blog for upcoming release information on these new models.
